Jan 2010: Guelph, Canada Latest generation
language technology simplifies the work of researchers of
University of Guelph Food
science department.
This project called for the upgrade of two applications that performed complex
curve fitting (measured data optimally fit to equations). In this project,
Mediavention enhanced the applications with additional features, user interface
improvements and created new MSI installer application.
The goal of these applications was to reduce the time and effort required to
perform procedures students were required to execute to manually fit complex
equations to their measured data. The application had to be simple enough to be
used by a wide variety of students and staff with varied knowledge of computers
and mathematical skills.
These applications were originally designed and developed by Mediavention in a
prior project. With the introduction of these applications to students and
researchers, the task of analysis data (from the labs DWS machines) has been
reduced from an error prone day long manual process to a 45 second step.
James Alexander, Mediavention president states: “We were certain that the users
would be happy with the reduced work load, but the applications have become part
of the culture and opened the math intense DWS technique to many. With this
second project we have added many additional data sanity checks so students get
better feedback from the data they have collected. Additional flexibility was
added to the application so researchers can vary the control run conditions with
different latex sphere sizes.”
