The Problem Although athletic instructors agree on what is good sports motion, they do not necessarily agree on how to teach it. The evidence is all the gadgets, videos, training aids,… on the market today. The underlying problem is that the student does not understand the correct motion, and the instructor does not have a tool to clearly communicate the correction. It is similar to a PhD. in mathematics teaching a grade 4 math class; the two are on different levels, and cannot connect on common ground.

The Solution Bridge the gap between instructor and student with something that is common to both. The common ground is physical movement and visual feedback. People know how to move their bodies, so the instructor's tools must leverage this expertise into instruction. When we began to develop MotionCoach, we started with the idea of a free-form visual motion communication tool. A tool that provided a platform that allows description of good movement in relation to an incorrect one.

The Result We have proven that with MotionCoach, students have a deeper knowledge of what they need to change, understand why the change should be made and are able to do it quicker. Trust is a bi-product of understanding, and trust is the biggest factor in managing willingness to change. With MotionCoach videos, lines, pictures, sounds, even live video are mixed together on a virtual whiteboard giving the instructor total freedom to visually communicate to the student.
